#Thailand#Surin#Prasat#Attraction Prasat Ban Phluang is located at Ban Phluang, Ban Phluang Sub-district, Prasat District, Surin Province. It is a small religious place facing east, created according to the Baphuon art style, and made of white sandstone on a laterite base. It is surrounded by a U-shaped ditch.
The Castle has a squared plan with dimensions of 4 x 4 meters, and laterite base has a rectangular plan with dimensions of about 8 x 23 meters. It is assumed that with this large laterite base, therefore, there is a possibility that there is an intention to build 3 castles on the same base. But, there could be some kind of major events such as wars, epidemics and droughts. As a result, the construction of the castle was halted accordingly.
The castle had only one entrance; on the other side is a fake door. The lintel on the east and south side engraved the image of Indra on the Erawan elephant. The lintel on the north side is engraved with an image of Lord Shiva defeating Naga Galiya. The western lintel has not carved any images.
Prasat Ban Pluang is an unfinished castle. It can be seen from the unfinished carvings. Most of the images are stories of mythological gods in the Shiva sect. But there are animal carvings such as squirrels and chipmunk carvings and the wild deer above the rooster's leaves on the side of the flora which does not appear in any castle
Prasat Ban Pluang was restored from 1971 to 1973 by an anastiliosis metho; it is to dismantle and assemble a new jigsaw reinforce the structure and foundation. Any part of the rock that is broken was completely filled with a new stone, without contradicting the original motifs and art of the castle by Mr. Vans Ray Sildress, PhD student at Cornell University, USA
